What Are Novus 10 Gaskets?

Novus 10 Gaskets are made from compressed non-asbestos fibre (CNAF) sheet material composed of aramid fibres and nitrile rubber (NBR) binder.

This modern material offers a safe, durable, and cost-effective alternative to older asbestos-based gaskets.

The material seals effectively under bolt load and maintains performance despite mild thermal cycling or minor joint movement.

Compared to high-spec materials, Novus 10 offers reliable sealing at a lower price point. It is commonly stocked and available in short lead times.

6. Simple to Cut and Install

Supplied in sheet or cut form, Novus 10 is easy to work with and compatible with most workshop and site cutting tools.

Material Selection for Manufacturing Use

Choosing the right gasket depends on the fluid, pressure, temperature, and operational conditions. Stephens Gaskets helps clients select the appropriate solution for their manufacturing environment.

1. Novus 10

Used in general plant sealing for water, steam, oil, and mild chemicals. Ideal for low-risk, repetitive applications.

2. Novus 30

Offers improved resistance to oils and hydrocarbons. Suitable for hotter or more chemically active conditions.

3. Novus 34

Designed for higher temperature or chemical resistance. Performs well in superheated steam and mildly aggressive chemical lines.

4. Graphite Gaskets

Best for extreme temperature and pressure. Used in boilers, chemical reactors, and high-heat process equipment.

5. PTFE Gaskets

Fully resistant to acids, solvents, and corrosive chemicals. Suitable for food, pharma, and chemical manufacturing.

6. Rubber Gaskets

Flexible and suited for low-pressure water, HVAC, and automotive systems.

7. Spiral Wound and Metallic Gaskets

Used in power plants and pressure vessels where safety margins and sealing strength are critical.

Limitations of Novus 10 Gaskets

While Novus 10 is highly versatile, it is not suited to all applications. Knowing its limits helps avoid performance issues and improves gasket longevity.

• Limited Heat Tolerance
  Novus 10 operates up to around 250°C. In higher temperature systems, such as superheated steam or exhaust manifolds, alternative materials like graphite or Novus 34 are recommended.
• Limited Chemical Resistance
  Not compatible with aggressive acids, caustics, or industrial solvents. PTFE or graphite is more suitable for these conditions.
• Pressure Restrictions
  Max pressure capability is around 10–15 bar. Systems requiring higher ratings may require metallic or reinforced gaskets.
• Potential Compression Set
  Under prolonged load or thermal stress, the material may relax. Monitoring bolt load and re-torquing flanges can help maintain seal performance.
• Not Ideal for Dynamic Joints
  Recommended only for static sealing applications. For systems with high vibration or joint movement, consider elastomeric or reinforced alternatives.
