What is plastic injection moulding?
Plastic injection moulding is a type of manufacturing. This process is used to create consistent batches of the same product both fast and efficiently. It is commonly used in mass-production and prototyping and is one of the most reliable manufacturing techniques for the production of plastic products.
How does it work?
The process begins with the production of an aluminium or steel mould that is the exact shape of the desired product. First, we make the original mould. Second, we melt the thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic. Finally, we pour it into the mould and it cools and solidifies. We then eject the product from the moulds.
The advantages of plastic injection moulding
Plastic moulding is one of the most efficient ways to produce plastic products. This is due to its fast process and large scale production capabilities. However, at the same time maintaining a low-cost production rate. The process is extremely simple, with minimal labour costs and a fast turnaround on production. An extensive selection of materials can be useful within plastic injection moulding. Therefore, it means the process is an incredibly versatile one. Plastic moulding creates minimal scrap losses. Furthermore, with low labour costs needed to create the batches of products, the process is highly economical.
