At Stephens Gaskets we stock the industries widest range of washers. So, naturally, that includes our quality rubber sealing washer. You may also know a sealing washer as a shim washer or rubber penny washers. They are widely used across many different industries and applications. Especially because they are available in such an array of materials, shapes and sizes

A common use for washers is underneath a nut, a joint or an axle bearing. They help to reduce friction, equal out pressure, keep components apart, prevent leakage or stop unfastening.

Industries generally use rubber sealing washers between mating faces to stop vibration from spreading or to ensure a seal (prevent leakage). Additionally, rubber washers play an essential role with fastening appliances (particularly within construction), preventing the fully tightened fastener from damaging its surface area.

In fact, they are particularly beneficial in face seal applications, where expanse is restricted and where there is insufficient groove depth.

Rubber sealing washer suitable applications

The reason washers are ideal across many industries is the huge variation of materials available. However, a rubber sealing washer is particularly ideal for paint coated surfaces, plating or enamel. Furthermore, they are great to use with water, mineral base oils and alkalis, with a vast temperature range of -10°C to +80°C.

Rubber washers are ideal for endless applications. For example, spacers, springs, locking devices, and wear pads. Industries such as plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems make good use of rubber products. They are also heat resistant and insulate against electric charges in electronic and thermal applications. Furthermore, thick rubber washers absorb shock and have non abrasive qualities. As a result, they are ideal spacers within machinery with frequently moving parts.

Each washer material has its benefits. Therefore, it’s important to choose the right washer for the intended application. For example, due to the softness of aluminium shims they are perfect to use at oil drain points. The reason being the shim can conform, which allows a tight seal. Whereas you will find stainless steel washers are great to use outdoors. Especially within the construction industry.
