What Are Novus 45 Gaskets?

Novus 45 Gaskets are made from compressed non-asbestos fibre (CNAF) materials. They are produced using aramid fibres and inorganic fillers bound together with a nitrile rubber (NBR) compound.

This composition provides strong compressibility, excellent sealing, and resilience under moderate-to-high pressure and temperature conditions.

Suitable Materials for Manufacturing Environments

Gasket material selection in manufacturing depends on fluid type, temperature, pressure, and compliance requirements. While Novus 45 is ideal for general service use, other materials may be necessary for more specialised applications.

1. Novus 45 (CNAF)

Suitable for steam, water, oil, and light chemical service. Common in general manufacturing, maintenance, and utilities.

2. Graphite Gaskets

Recommended for high-temperature or high-pressure applications. Used in heat exchangers, exhaust lines, and chemical plants.

3. PTFE (Teflon) Gaskets

Ideal for aggressive chemical environments or food and pharmaceutical sectors requiring non-contaminating materials.

4. Rubber Gaskets (NBR, EPDM, Neoprene)

Used in lower pressure systems and for HVAC, water treatment, and mechanical service.

5. Metallic and Semi-Metallic Gaskets

Essential for extreme temperatures or pressures. Common in heavy manufacturing, oil and gas, and refinery systems.

Issues Addressed by Novus 45 Gaskets

Novus 45 solves many of the common problems faced by industrial operators and maintenance professionals. However, understanding its limits ensures it is applied correctly.

• Limited Chemical Resistance
  Not recommended for aggressive acids, strong alkalis, or corrosive solvents. PTFE or graphite gaskets are preferred for such media.
• Temperature Thresholds
  While rated up to 400°C, prolonged exposure to high temperatures near this limit can reduce lifespan. In these cases, graphite alternatives may be more suitable.
• Pressure Capability
  Maximum pressure is approximately 100 bar. For systems requiring higher ratings, metallic or spiral-wound gaskets are advised.
• Compression Set Risk
  As with all fibre gaskets, creep and relaxation can occur over time, particularly under prolonged stress or heat. Proper torque application and regular inspections reduce this risk.
