What is Blow Moulding?

Blow moulding is different from injection moulding and allows for the production of ‘hollow’ plastic products – such as a bottle. We can provide this service for any quantity of components and also advise from the beginning of the design process through to production.


The Process

The basic process is that the raw plastic material in granule form is fed into a hopper on top of the machine. The plastic is then guided into a feed, similar to that of injection moulding, which is heated and threads the plastic along to the mould. The plastic is then directed into the mould along with air ‘blowing’ the plastic to form the shape of the mould. The mould in turn is cooled which then turns the component solid.

It is the king of thin walled hollow parts with excellent surface finish. This gives it its high visibility in the consumer world with billions of plastic bottles being produced using the plastic blowing machine process every year.


Difference between Blow Moulding and Plastic Injection Moulding?
