Thanks for visiting the Stephen Gasket blow moulding page. At Stephen Gaskets we are proud of the wide range of excellent services we offer to our clients, including blow moulding UK and we go the extra mile to meet your requirements. As blow moulding specialists we can help you with every step of the production process.

What is Blow Moulding?

Blow moulding is different from injection moulding and allows for the production of ‘hollow’ plastic products – such as a bottle. We can provide this service for any quantity of components and also advise from the beginning of the design process through to production.

The Process

The basic process is that the raw plastic material in granule form is fed into a hopper on top of the machine. The plastic is then guided into a feed, similar to that of injection moulding, which is heated and threads the plastic along to the mould. The plastic is then directed into the mould along with air ‘blowing’ the plastic to form the shape of the mould. The mould in turn is cooled which then turns the component solid.

It is the king of thin walled hollow parts with excellent surface finish. This gives it its high visibility in the consumer world with billions of plastic bottles being produced using the plastic blowing machine process every year.

Difference between Blow Moulding and Plastic Injection Moulding?

The major difference between plastic injection moulding Birmingham and blow moulding plastic is the kind of product produced. Typically, plastic blow moulding is designed to produce hollow, singular containers, such as bottles. Whereas plastic moulding is used to produce solid pieces such as car body panels, automotive dashboards, as well as smaller components such as spools.

Benefits of Blow Moulding:

  • Reduced labour costs and increased production speed – quick manufacturing, high volume output and computerised machines means better return on investment.
  • It’s low cost – it uses a lower level of pressure, which means that machinery costs are low and again, the use of technology allows you to reduce labour costs.
  • It promotes a higher level of productivity – you can produce greater quantities in a short period of time meaning the production cycle is much faster.
  • It offers the benefits of automation – it is an automated production method, which means minimal excess and waste around the material, seamless part incorporation and increased speed of production, thanks to the precise receptacle it creates.

Blow Moulding Birmingham is one of the most cost effective ways to produce your product. It is also a quick way to produce a high volume. If you need a lot of stock in a short amount of time then it is the perfect solution.
